For those of you who take your networking business seriously and want to earn a serious income, this one’s for you. There are seven keys or elements that you should have in place with regard to your business. You may have heard some or all of these before. The magic happens when you implement these elements to the best of your ability on a consistent basis. None of them are difficult. In fact, they are quite simple. That’s why many people often gloss over them and keep on searching for the secret to success when they probably have heard most of these already. You CAN have unusual success in your business. Read on . . .
The first key is to take action. Don’t waste your time looking for those elusive secrets to success if you’re not even taking consistent action in your business. Take action using your daily or weekly plan of action that you’ve established in advance. Taking action daily and mixing it with some good old-fashioned persistence is KEY.
The second key is to lead with your company’s tools. You are not the issue. Take yourself out of the equation. If you lack confidence in talking to prospects, get some skills in that area and don’t make yourself the issue. To qualify the prospect, you can use one of Mark’s great rapport builder skills. It’s important to find out IF the prospect has a need or desire before you introduce a tool. If there’s no need or desire, they are not a prospect.
The third key is to follow-up! The fortune is in the follow-up, but the quicker fortune is in the immediate follow-up. Don’t drop the ball on this one. If you find that prospects don’t show up for the appointment or meeting, then you might want to get some additional skill training in that area.
The fourth key is to treat your business like a business. In other words, be a professional. Act as if you are already making your $20,000 or $50,000 a month. Does someone making that kind of money need a conference call or a training to coax them into taking action, or being consistent, or following up? You know the answer.
The fifth key is to set goals. Set specific and clearly defined goals . . . a definite major purpose (DMP – see Week 1). Write them down and have them before you as you work your business like a professional. You want to pay off debt? Don’t write down “pay off debt.” How much do you want to pay off this month? In six months? By the end of this year? Write that specific figure down. You don’t go into a restaurant and ask the waiter or waitress for some food do you? Be specific!
The sixth key is to hold yourself accountable. At the end of the day, did you accomplish what you had written down on your daily plan of action? Did you spend your time wisely and have a professional mindset and work ethic? What could you have done better? Do you need to contact more people in order to hit your numbers? Do you have any numbers? If you don’t have any numbers, get some.
The seventh and final key is to acquire skills. Network marketing IS a skill-based business. In the beginning, you need to talk to more people to earn X dollars. After your skill increases, you are able to talk to less people and make more than X dollars. In as little as 10 minutes a day, you can learn a new skill or refine one you already have. Below is a great video by the World’s Laziest Networker to get you started.
To your success, Kathy
With all the talk about setting goals, new year’s resolutions, and mapping out where you want to be in six months, one year or five years, what about those of you who may find yourself just plain stuck. You are unable to move forward, for whatever reason, and make daily progress towards your goals. You’ve been on most of your company’s calls, taken some copious notes, written down your daily and weekly plan of action, and you even show up from time to time at your company’s trainings. But you’ve made little to no progress in your network marketing business in spite of the best of intentions and an honest desire to be successful. Other people in your same business have enrolled many people, hit some great achievement levels and earned some fantastic income, but not you. Not you because you’re stuck.
Don’t kid yourself, if you’re not doing daily or at least consistent activity towards your income goals, you’re not going to be successful. Not now or next year either. Sitting around hoping for things to change just because time passes, is not going to do it. Having all these great plans and activities in your head that don’t translate into action won’t get the job done either. It doesn’t work in a regular job and it won’t work in your own business. Because it’s ‘your business’ and you are the boss, your own personal mindset, philosophies, and internal blueprint comes into play. It doesn’t show up the same way on a regular job, because if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, then you’re pink-slipped, fired or otherwise shown the door.
But now you’re the boss, and there’s no one to make you do what your supposed to do but YOU. Now what? If you truly have a desire for things to change, you can change them. It’s that simple. You currently have a mindset that is not programmed for success or you would already be doing what you need to do to make yourself successful in your own business. Don’t let the fog of indecision, excuses, apathy, lack of vision or perfectionism rob you of the chance to do something with the business that you’ve chosen for yourself. WHY did you choose your business? WHAT did you hope to gain from it? You must have had a reason.
Here’s a simple thing that you can implement immediately to get you into the habit of taking some action every day. Excuses can become a habit, but so can taking action. Working your business during a set time every day and protecting that time is another key factor in staying consistent.
Take out five 3 x 5 index cards and write down each day of the week and time that you can work your business . . . say Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Then write down just ONE thing that you need to do to move your business forward. Do not write down answering emails or setting up a marketing system. Write down one income producing activity like sharing your business with three people. Or making 3 phone calls to prospects. When the excuses start entering your head, say “NO!” Then pick up the phone and just do it. No more asking yourself ”if you feel like it.” Tell yourself you’ll think about that AFTER you make the 3 calls that you’ve written on your card for the day.
Give yourself some kind of small reward if you did take that daily action. If you didn’t, then realize that you are selling yourself short. You are unique with God-given talents and gifts that were given to YOU and you alone . . . don’t bury them and waste them so no one else can benefit from them, including you. Start over, forgive yourself and move on. Pull out the next card for the next day and do that one. Keep repeating this process until you are successful for an entire week in doing what you have on your card. Then add a little more to your card each week until you are using your time wisely for the amount of time you have allotted.
There are many helpful posts on this blog to help you on your pathway to success. The legendary success writer, Napoleon Hill, said, “create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you’re ready or not, to put this plan into action.” That, my friend, is the KEY to success . . . simple and consistent action.
To your success, Kathy

I know that I need to share this, but also know that sharing this puts me in a very vulnerable position.
My networking business is relatively new, and so it doesn’t bring in much income as yet (but that IS changing!!). My JOB (remember, that stands for “Just Over Broke”) is commission-based. Well, in December I received the lowest commission checks that I have EVER received. My check on the first of the month wasn’t even enough to pay my mortgage, let alone my other obligations.
Oh man! When I saw the notice about this check, my heart plummeted. Immediately, the Old Blueprint sprang to the surface along with horrible thoughts of failure. You know the thoughts: “I am a failure, I am letting down my family, God, how could you let this happen? Not at Christmas!” Any of these a part of your “Blueprint,” i.e., your standard way of thinking? My stomach began to knot. I was on my way to despair!
And then, I remembered something amazing! I remembered the “Law of Substitution” which says that the mind can only consciously think of one thing at a time. Just to illustrate: do NOT think about the Statue of Liberty. What are you thinking about? I know, you’re thinking about that great Statue, aren’t you? You can’t help it. It’s part of how God has made us. But if you discipline yourself to think about a beautiful palm tree swaying in a wonderfully warm breeze as the sun sets over the ocean in the background…whamo…the Statue of Liberty is gone from of your mind.
So…instead of wallowing in despair, I determined to focus on my Definite Major Purpose (DMP) and my Press Release. I focused on how I now KNOW that my DMP is a reality that I am walking into. What a relief! The despair vanished like a morning fog as the sun’s rays dispel that cold mist. I had joy. I had peace. My faith was reactivated and I knew that God was faithfully providing for me.
I am SO grateful to have this tool available to me…what a game-changer!
(Note by Kathy: For more information on your internal blueprint, refer to the post from week 4).

What a difference a night of reflection makes on one’s self image. How refreshing is the warmth of the sun on a new morning with renewed vision! I have revived myself & the choice was mine. This is a beautiful new day, new week!
Such a powerful call last night. Mark, the picture you painted of
throwing all in the trash, ripped my heart wide open. I saw my own dreams reduced to rubble & my heart screamed out in pain. And then Davene, your heart spoke volumes to me, as I received your life pumping words of affirmation & renewing of my own heart. This was, without a doubt the best call & the finality of fireworks & ending of 2010 with an explosion! A dynamic call!!!
This is what I’d like to call the Freedom Train. What do I mean by that? It means that one of my PPN’s (Personal Pivotal Needs) is Liberty or Freedom. I don’t take this lightly & neither should you – not my freedom, but yours. My passion is to help others board this Freedom Train & live their lives to the fullest. It is a choice & the choice must be yours. The opportunity knocks & waits for anyone who desires to reach deep inside their thoughts & redirect wrong thinking and replace it with something good, which has long been buried in the subconscious.
This is the time to ignite your fire. What are your dreams?
We are not called to live a life of poverty. For how can a poor person help another poor person? We cannot give what we don’t have. Success to me is not about the wealth, although living a debt free lifestyle is essential to me.
My other PPN is Legacy. All our days are numbered & when I leave this world, success to me will be all about how many people I helped along the way find their passion, their driving force, their calling in this life. There lies the victory. Caring more for others, loving people & reaching out to them with a helping hand – that’s what living a fulfilling life is all about.
And that’s exactly what this Master Key Master Mind Alliance is all about. This group of people reach out to help & encourage each other, because we believe in each other, more concerned about someone who is ready to throw in the towel than about individual self. Mark & Davene have taught us well and what we are seeing & hearing across the board is miraculous! It is not easy; but what in life that’s easy is worth it in the end.
To our instructors – My heart felt gratitude to Mark & Davene for all you have done to reach out to us with your guiding hands & knowledge. To my colleagues – I am blessed & more than thankful to every member of this group for all that each of you individually have taught me through your inspiring words & encouragement. I could not have come this far without you.
So here is wishing all the most Blessed Merry Christmas! May all your dreams begin to unfold as together we begin a New Year of explosive growth, excitement & new found knowledge!
Much Love, Diane Norris
When we first started in the master keys we did not know what was going to happen. Sometimes the exercises seemed trivial and sometimes the repetition seemed pointless. I can see now how important it is to lay a great foundation for the master keys program because NOW the rubber is starting to really meet the road. Not only is the Definite Major Purpose (DMP) becoming more and more the reality it is supposed to be, I am actually seeing the reality of the thought becoming a reality in well, physical reality… ![]()
When I first started to do my DMP, I was trying to follow instructions and I see now I was treating it more as a class assignment. I needed to make sure it came out to the satisfaction of the class leader . Then as time went on, I understood that I needed to make sure that the DMP was a real plan for my future, a plan I really wanted to believe was going to happen.
Now after 10 weeks of the master keys course, of reading the DMP out load daily, of studying the master keys material and working with Mark, Davene and my fellow MKMMAer’s, a process that SERIOUSLY has been really hard work,
(had I known how hard in the beginning, would I have committed to doing the course??? not sure, glad I don’t have to really ponder that…) I have gone from telling myself I believe in my future reality to Believing my future reality. There is a big difference.
Not only is my DMP becoming more real for me every day, it is becoming more real for my wife Vicki. Lately she has taken a real interest in the DMP and started listening in. This morning she came over and started correcting the vision! Mostly it was about the house and yard.
First it was some modifications to the kitchen and the bathroom, I forgot some things and the bathtub I envisioned was not what she wanted. Then there was the front yard. What I have been imagining was not correct.
So we sat down together and went right through those parts of the DMP, correcting the designs and Vicki made some sketches. After we finished, my DMP had changed for the better, even more real.
I am so pleased this happened, I see now that Vicki now has a concrete belief in our future, my vision is so much more clear now. The more clarity, the stronger the belief.
This week our exercise has been to select a blank space on the wall, and mentally draw a black horizontal line about six inches long, and then add two vertical lines connecting with the horizontal line at either end and another horizontal line connecting with the two vertical lines to make a square. then draw a circle within the square; place a point in the center of the circle; and draw the point toward you about 10 inches; now you have a cone on a square base; then change it from black to white, then red, then yellow.
Exercises like this every week, starting simply, and gradually becoming more and more difficult each week, are like mental aerobics. Exercises that are strengthening and helping me grow and expand my mind giving me the right tools to build my future reality.
I’d like to begin with an important quote by the legendary American industrialist and automaker, Henry Ford, who said, “You can’t build a reputation on what you’re gonna do.” Most of us at one time or another have tried to do exactly that. Transferring your intentions onto paper in the form of your action plan is the best place to begin. You may have heard the phrase, “nothing is dynamic until it is specific.”
NOW is the best time to be honest with yourself and put your goals and action plan down in writing. New year, new you . . . right? You CAN make it happen.
Commit your goals to paper and try to make them as clear and specific as possible. What do you plan to do to reach your daily goals, weekly goals, and monthly goals? What would you like to accomplish in 30 days, 3 months, 6 months and one year? Where do you see yourself 3 – 5 years from now? Lay it all out. Be sure to make your plans realistic according to your current skill level and commitment level. It says in Proverbs 21:5 that “the plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty.” Do you want plenty? Are you willing to put forth some diligence to attain your goals?
If yes, then write down your plans and carry them out to the best of your ability. Stay focused, be persistent, committed and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.
Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States said, “persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” He also said that the slogan, “press on,” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Maybe “pressing on” would also help you solve some of the problems in your network marketing business like why it’s not growing as it should. While you’re pressing on, I would also throw in a little enthusiasm as well. A little enthusiasm just might be the catalyst to spark a renewed hope in someone else who has let the hope of their own dreams grow dim. Who knows? Lay out your plans and get in motion. Napoleon Hill, who was one of the greatest success writers who ever lived said, “create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you’re ready or not, to put this plan into action.”
To your success, Kathy
